Another "liken"

In my ongoing quest to “liken” the teachings of the Book of Mormon to the current political situation, I am continually impressed by the richness and depth of the Book’s teachings and of its anticipation of lessons we need to learn. Today’s example, Helaman chapter 7, involves a situation in which the prophet Nephi is bemoaning the corrupt condition of his own people, the Nephites.  See if you can see several clear parallels to the political conditions in the United States today. In general, Nephi is discouraged by the following:
"4 And seeing the people in a state of such awful wickedness, and those Gadianton robbers filling the judgment-seats [Justice Dept.]—
• having usurped the power and authority of the land;
• laying aside the commandments of God, and
• not in the least aright before him;
• doing no justice unto the children of men [discrediting the rule of law];"
Then he specifically considers the following, which align directly to (1) the attacks on the brave people of integrity who testified against the President, (2) the recent pardons, (3) the impeachment process, and (4) the President’s attacks on the judicial system:
• "5 Condemning the righteous because of their righteousness [attacking impeachment witnesses];
• letting the guilty and the wicked go unpunished because of their money [pardons];
• and moreover, to be held in office at the head of government, to rule and do according to their wills, that they might get gain and glory of the world [impeachment], and,
• moreover, that they might the more easily commit adultery, and steal, and kill, and do according to their own wills [discrediting judiciary]—
6 Now this great iniquity had come upon the Nephites, in the space of not many years; and when Nephi saw it, his heart was swollen with sorrow within his breast; …”
What do you think?
